Scenes From My Weekend: Rejuvenate {Part 3}

This weekend brought renewed health to our little family of five after two weeks of fighting nasty colds and flu bugs.  Despite the never ending snow of what seems like the longest winter ever, we embraced the moments and just enjoyed each other.

My hubby took our four year old daughter on a special daddy-daughter date to dinner and a movie while I enjoyed a special at-home date with my two boys.

I discovered that our five month old loves bath time and, thanks to the help of his bumbo seat, he had a blast splashing and giggling with his brother.  And it did my soul good to just sit and soak up their joy.

But, most of all, the time spent soaking up the love of the man God made for me and the three little blessings we've been gifted was just the medicine my heart and soul needed to be revived and rejuvenated for the week ahead.

Scenes From My Weekend: Rejuvenate {Part 2}

This weekend brought an unexpected flu bug to our house.
What started out as runny noses and coughs
left my daughter and I in bed most of Saturday
with feverish chills, body aches, and nausea
(which resulted in puking for her).
So, our weekend consisted of staying in our pajamas,
using up all the Kleenex in sight,
watching too many Netflix movies,
and taking long afternoon naps.
The laundry, dishes, and cleaning were forgotten
while we allowed our bodies
to rejuvenate our health for the week ahead.

Poor girl got the worst of this flu bug and was in bed
or curled up in daddy's arms most of the weekend.

Tired, bed-head little boy got the worst sounding cough ever,
making this momma nervous about his weak lungs.

Someone started feeling better Sunday morning,
but hardly knew what to do without his favorite playmate.

 Thankfully, our littlest peanut only
got a minor cough and runny nose,
which could just be teething related.
Everything has become a teething toy lately,
including daddy's stocking-covered feet!

Big brother decided, since his favorite playmate was sick in bed,
he should keep little brother entertained.
Little brother was happy to oblige his brother's need for fun,
giggling and chattering away,
displaying his biggest smile for big brother.

This is one of my favorite moments of any day,
because it's the only time our littlest peanut sits still.
I cherish these moments, forcing myself to slow down
and simply watch him sleep while I hold him close,
because he is already growing far too fast.

Scenes From My Weekend: Rejuvenate {Part 1}

Saturday morning, I woke before the sun rose.  Our littlest one was snug in the co-sleeper on my side of the bed, while our daughter was curled up next to daddy and our oldest son was curled up in a blanket on daddy's side of the bed.  While my four loves slept peacefully, I sat in the quiet of the living room, my mind rushing with the list of to dos for the day ahead.  I couldn't seem to quiet my own mind and before I knew it I was curled up in my husband's arms on Sunday afternoon, tears of exhaustion spilling from my heart.

He listened as the words finally found their way out of my tangled thoughts and helped me sort through the mess and renew my spirit.  We talked about making the most of the time I have and decluttering my life from the stuff that was keeping me from doing the things my soul most craved: spending time in His words, writing the story He's placed on my heart, and getting out to exercise and enjoy some fresh air after being enduring another long winter.  We made plans for the week ahead and then he sent me to bed to let sleep wash over me with a new hope and fresh perspective for the week ahead.

When I woke from my slumber, I looked through the photos in my Instagram feed, glimpses of purpose and meaning in the midst of endless laundry, dishes, and diaper changes.  These three remind me that there is beauty in the ordinary.  So, when I woke again this morning before a new day dawned, I fed my soul with rejuvenating Words and smiled as, one by one, sleepy headed children rose from their slumber and found their way into my arms, ready to enjoy and embrace whatever ordinary moments fill the day ahead.
